Leigh Hunter events and results
I'll be focussing on my preparation for the Seniors Tour in my 49th year. I'm now 46 and my birthday is July 30th so it will be a few years of preparation.
Things that I'll be working on;
1. Fitness
2. Health and nutrition
3. Practice
4. Wellbeing
Since 1998 just after my children were born I stopped playing professional golf and focussed on being the main care giver to my twin children. I hadn't considered returning to professional golf until last year when the kids suggested that I start playing again.
I get pretty focussed on things once I start and I'll keep you informed of my preparation over the next few years.
There had been many comments from my peers that I was about to break through in the bigger events when my children were born. It was a mutual decision from both my wife and myself that I would cease playing at this point as we thought that family come first. While I was on tour there were many broken up relationships due to the families being apart and we didn't want to be part of that statisic.
So now that I'm starting to get back to it I thought I'd give you the up's and down's of a professionals life.
1. Fitness
In my early years I battled back pain in just about every round of golf I played. However since being back on course I thought it be best to get a training program specifically focussed on core strength.
After working on some core strength exercises for a few months my back pain has gone and I'm feeling fitter than ever. I do need to inform you that the fitness side of this program is extreemely important and I need to do it every day. I cannot recommend core strength exercise enough and anyone with back pain should consider getting a program from a specialised trainer.
Event mentality
What this means is more about how I think and what I need to do to be prepared for seiors professional golf.
With every pro/am I play in I will be looking at it as 1 of 4 rounds i.e the first round I play will be the first, the 2nd - second, third and fourth in my mind. So I will only be thinking of four round events. When my scores are around par for 4 rounds then I think my preparation will be complete and I will be ready for the Seniors tour. Baring in mind I've had 13 years of golf so it will take a little time to get my game back in order.
The last round of 3rd, 4 round total was very good as I had my daughter caddying for me. When I was 1 under with 7 holes to play she said dad, dont play safe. I finished my round birdie, bogie, birdie, birdie, par, eagle, birdie, for 6 under par and come 3rd
Scores
1st 4 round total 303
2nd 4 round Total 298
3rd 4 round total 292, highlighted by a 6 under par round at Lonsdale GC Victoria with a hole in one on my second last hole.
